Most singers think they’re waiting to feel “ready” for auditions—but readiness isn’t a feeling you eventually arrive at. It’s something you build through repetition, imperfect runs, and showing up before you feel confident. In this post, we break down why “ready” is often just fear in disguise, and what actually gets singers booked in the room.

Watching a singer step onto a national stage can make success look sudden. But there is no such thing as an overnight sensation—only years of unseen work. Inspired by my student Lucas West’s journey on The Voice, this post explores the real process behind vocal growth, artistry, and the long road that leads to “big moments.”

At the start of this year, I set a quiet goal: be featured in a major national journal. I wasn’t sure how or when — just that I wanted to use my voice to reach a little farther. And now, here it is. A small reminder that the dreams we carry are worth holding onto. Not for recognition, but because they reflect years of building something real.
